Easy Creamy Oatmeal Recipe

- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Bring the milk and water to a simmer in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Watch the pan carefully to avoid milk from boiling over.
Add the oats, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 10 minutes, or until desired consistency has been reached. Stir occasionally to avoid scorching.
Let cool for 5 minutes. Add toppings of your choice and enjoy!
- Watch the liquids closely as they get hot in the saucepan (before you add the oats). The milk will foam and bubble over quickly if not watched!
- This recipe calls for half milk and half water. Feel free to change up the ratio, as long as the liquid to oat ratio is 2:5.
- Don't skimp on the liquids! It might seem like you're adding a lot of liquid, but you'll want to have enough liquid in the mix. You'll want to aim for 2 part oats to 5 part liquids.
